Now that the dust has settled, it’s time to take a closer look at what the Manchester United XI could look like with both Cavani and Telles included.

The Old Trafford outfit made a real splash on transfer deadline day. Moves for Alex Telles and in particular, Edinson Cavani certainly excited fans. Sure, neither were the Jadon Sancho addition that we all dreamed of, but at least new players were brought in through the entrance doors at the Theatre of Dreams.

After a shaky start to the 2020/21 term, Solskjaer needs an immediate impact from his new players as soon as we return from the international break. With that in mind, we’ve decided to take a closer look to try and see where Cavani and Telles will fit in…

At this point, I’d like to point out that United also sealed deals for Facundo Pellestri and Diallo Traore, the latter won’t make the move to Manchester until January. I’d imagine both will need at least half a season to settle in, so we probably won’t see them regularly until the 2021/22 campaign.

Anyway, for now, let’s take a closer look at what we feel would be our strongest team. Bear in mind that this was drawn up under the premise that every player is fit and available for selection. As always, this does come down to personal opinion, but here we go…

So all the obvious players keep their place. Harry Maguire will remain captain, David de Gea does start in between the sticks while both Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes are included.

Edinson Cavani is a natural born finisher. Although he can play on the wing or even in behind the striker, it’d make sense to give the 33-year-old his chance in his best position – up top.

That would mean Anthony Martial moving back to the left-wing, with Marcus Rashford heading over to the right-hand side. Mason Greenwood would drop to the bench, but he’s still young and learning and what a fantastic impact sub he has the potential to be.

Slotting Alex Telles into the team is far easier. Simply put, it means Luke Shaw dropping to the substitutes bench, a role in which ability-wise, he’s probably far better suited to. Brandon Williams will now play over in the right-back slot as back-up to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Again, this is all subject to players being readily available for selection. In this season, more than ever, it’s vital you have a strong squad to choose from. On paper, the additions made on transfer deadline day definitely make United look a whole lot better. Now, it’s down to our new signings to execute.
