Manchester United’s season is slowly winding down to a close, as we’re now getting into the business end of things. At this point in time our squad is looking pretty decimated by injuries and that looks set to continue according to the gaffer.
Jose has been speaking to the media this Good Friday, and has pretty much confirmed that Juan Mata’s season is over as he has been ruled out until ‘late May’. Now, the Europa League final is potentially our last fixture of the season, and that takes place on May 24th.
“Late May,” Mourinho said of Mata, as per Sky Sports News. “And Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, mid-May.”
I guess Mata’s season is all-but over now, and we’ll definitely miss the Spaniard quite a lot. His creativity and willingness to improvise to create opportunites will be a real loss, especially in those tight matches as he can always come up with an important goal or two.
It’s also interesting when Mourinho adds that both Jones and Smalling are out until mid-May, as the defensive pair are pretty much done as well, because by the time those guys get back into full training they’ll only be a couple of weeks of the season left.
To lose so many players for this long must be of concern. It now leaves us with just Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly in terms of recognised centre-backs. Alright, they’ve been doing pretty good but if one of them goes down injured we’d be in huge of trouble.
