Manchester United are yet to spend any money in this transfer window, with Jose Mourinho seemingly trying to bring in a new striker – to no avail at this point in time. Now it looks as though we’ve been hit with a blow in that regard with Romelu Lukaku set to snub us.
That’s according to The Independent, who say that the Belgian is preparing to turn Old Trafford down in favour of a move to his former employers, Chelsea.
At 24, Lukaku would have been a brilliant addition to our strikeforce. He knows exactly where the back of the net is and I always felt like he’d fit our style of play down to a tee.
However, it looks as though he wants to follow in the footsteps of Didier Drogba at Chelsea. We also have to factor in that Lukaku probably has doubts about playing for Mourinho – the man who sold him whilst he was in charge at Stamford Bridge.
You can’t really blame him for choosing the side that has just won the Premier League title over us. The fee being mentioned is somewhere around the £80million mark which is a huge amount of money, but, if the aforementioned report is true then his mind is made up.
It’s now up to the boss and Edward Woodward to start working towards other transfer targets. It’ll be interesting to see who we turn our attentions towards.
