Manchester United and Real Madrid left it late, but it looked as though a deal for David de Gea was finally set to go through – until 11:01 last night when Real Madrid still hadn’t submitted the paperwork in time, and now it looks as though any potential deal is dead in the water.
Whilst speaking on Sky Sports News’ Periscope channel, Guillem Balague said:
“It looks like it’s over.” Balague began. “Manchester United are blameless and did nothing wrong.” The La Liga expert added.
It is thought that the deal was held up by Keylor Navas’ reluctance to leave Real Madrid and join Manchester United. At the end of the day, Manchester United are now in a stronger position regarding De Gea than they were twelve hours ago.
If I were Louis van Gaal I’d refuse to play the Spaniard unless he agrees to sign a new Manchester United contract. With the Euro’s coming up next summer, De Gea will be desperate to play and prove his talent.
Whatever happens, I still highly doubt David de Gea will be in net when Liverpool visit Old Trafford on 12th September.
