Manchester United have been long-term admirers of both Ilkay Gundogan and Toni Kroos, and both midfielders have been linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer. However the plot has thickened recently, with Bayern Munich interested in possibly replacing Kroos with Dortmund’s Gundogan.
Accorind to Bleacher Report, Bayern are willing to go head-to-head for Gundogan’s signature, but Borussia Dortmund would prefer to sell to Manchester United and let the player move to a club in another country – Particularly following deals for both Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski who have moved from Dortmund to Bayern and angered fans in the process.
Signing Ilkay Gundogan would be a gamble for any club, especially given his injury problems of late. However if the player can get past his injury concerns then it could be one of the best deals of the summer.
Out of the two, Toni Kroos is the better player on a consistent basis, and also has a far better injury record which is exactly what United need. Kroos has been playing in the deeper role for Bayern recently, and I have no doubt that he can sit in alongside Carrick or Fellaini and positively impact a struggling United midfield.
