Injury concerns as Jose Mourinho sweating on the fitness of several key men for Fulham game

We’re already at the point where Manchester United find themselves in a must-win situation against Fulham Football Club at the weekend. With the wrong result, I’m definitely fearing for Jose Mourinho’s job as we continue to lose ground on the top four.

Ahead of the game, the self-proclaimed Special One met the media to discuss a variety of topics – including the current injury crisis that the Red Devils find themselves in. Against Southampton last weekend, Phil Jones was the only fit defender, although a few faces did come back for the Arsenal home game.

However, against The Gunners, Anthony Martial limped off with injury, while we’re still waiting to hear what’s going on with Luke Shaw. Mourinho also confirmed that we’re still sweating on the fitness of both Chris Smalling and Phil Jones; who battled through injuries to take on Arsenal on Wednesday night.

“[We are] still waiting for conclusions, still waiting for people like Martial, Smalling, Jones – people with these kind of doubts,“ said Mourinho to ”But there is a good spirit and people are putting themselves on the line like Chris did in the last match and Jones did against Southampton. That’s important when we have so many matches and problems with some players.”

Personally, if these guys aren’t right, I’d go with Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo as the centre-back pairing. It is a combination that has served Mourinho well in the past, so why not revert to type and give them the opportunity that they’ve been waiting for?

I love the Martial/Shaw combination down the left. They link well together, the left-back will overlap when needed, while Martial is always capable of producing the spectacular. If one, or both of these guys pull through, I’d like our chances of scooping all three points a whole lot better. As you’d imagine, though, the manager is doing his utmost to remain tight-lipped.
