Inter director in UK to meet Man United to discuss Lukaku transfer: report

Rumours linking Romelu Lukaku with a potential Manchester United exit just will not go away…

Today’s update in the brewing saga comes from Italy, namely Gazzetta dello Sport, translated excellently by Sport Witness.

GdS’ Thursday print edition had a two-page spread on Lukaku today, as they state that Inter Milan’s director, Piero Ausilio, is now in the UK (London) to hold talks with United over the potential transfer of the 26-year-old…

Apparently, the story explains that this is the ‘first official contact’ between United and Inter, with the Serie A side going into the meeting knowing that Lukaku wants the move to happen. Ausilio will be hoping to use said fact to ‘defer’ the full €75m (£67.2m) payment that the Reds are asking for.

Gazzetta Thursday print edition.

Inter’s idea is to pay the fee in two or three instalments, presumably due to ongoing Financial Fair Play issues looming over the Serie A giants.

Gazzetta does explain that the talks, although starting today, could take a while – which leaves me intrigued as to whether Lukaku will still be wearing Manchester United red when these two sides meet on pre-season tour on July 20th.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – all credit goes to Lukaku for remaining so professional throughout. It seems pretty clear (to me anyway), that the United number nine would like the move to happen, but he has displayed an exemplary attitude and that’s super to see.

Will the transfer happen? I’m yet to be convinced as I don’t see United accepting some sort of instalment payment plan. They’d want an up-front, flat fee to let a key squad member leave.
