Manchester United have fifteen players on show at this year’s World Cup, and in fact, only German champions Bayern Munich have more players representing them. There were four Reds who could’ve played yesterday, but only two managed to get on the pitch for their national sides.
Mexico 1-0 Cameroon
The day started off with Mexico taking on Cameroon, and rather expectedly, Chicharito found himself dropped from the side after hardly playing for his club all season long. His replacement, Oribe Peralta scored the only goal of the game before Chicharito came on as a late substitute. The Little Pea then came on, but missed an absolute sitter that would’ve sealed the game for Mexico.
Spain 1-5 Holland
Well, what else is there to say about this game. Louis van Gaal’s Holland decimated Spain – and Robin van Persie played a major part. The 30-year old Dutchman scored an absolutely world class header to draw Holland level, and then scored again late in the second half to make it 4-1. Arjen Robben had a blinder as he scored two superb goals also.
This was an insight as to what life will be like under Louis van Gaal, and I for one simply cannot wait until domestic football is back.
