Jesse Lingard has always had a thing for scoring at Wembley. That goal against Leicester City in the Community Shield, that wonder strike to seal Manchester United’s first trophy in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era. Our Warrington-born-boy-wonder has always done it when the lights are at their brightest.
After scoring another banger for England at the Home of Football, Lingard was called upon when the Three Lions found themselves 1-0 down to Croatia. Within minutes, the #14 had scored to level the score – although it was a tap-in rather than yet another thunderbolt. Thankfully, he could see the funny side of things, before England turned it around thanks to a captain’s goal from Harry Kane.
I just don’t know what it is about Lingard and the national stadium. He always saves his best for that ground, and it’s great to see the country giving him the recognition that his talent and ability deserves.
As you’d imagine, both United and England fans were all over Twitter expressing their delight at Lingard’s output. Now, if he can return to United and rediscover those shooting boots, that would be lovely.

Us United fans weren’t joking when we said that Wembley was Jesse Lingard’s playground. 2 in 2 now for him.

Jesse Lingard needs to turn this England form into his Manchester United form. Goals badly needed.
