Manchester United’s January transfer window was a pretty unsuccessful one when it came to bringing in new players. Obviously, no moves were made on that front, but there were are a couple of big casualties who departed from the Theatre of Dreams.
Both Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin were sold to Lyon and Everton respectively, after they both struggled to implement their style of play under both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho.
Now, Jamie Carragher has been discussing all things Everton, and amongst the topic of discussion was the French midfielder. The Liverpool legend claims that Schneiderlin has been a brilliant signing for Everton, and he cannot quite work out how he wasn’t successful at Old Trafford.
“I think Morgan Schneiderlin has been a brilliant signing, I really do. I still can’t quite work out how it didn’t work out for him at Manchester United, because I think he’s a really top player.” Carragher is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.
“They made good signings, and the confidence going forward with the manager bodes well for the future.”
At the end of the day, that’s football. Sometimes, things don’t happen in the way you imagined they would and that definitely feels like the case here. Morgan Schneiderlin came to the club after some wonderful performances for Southampton, and big things were expected.
From day one he just hasn’t been good enough and it was a real disappointment. He had eighteen months to prove his worth and value here, but whenever he was given an opportunity – he flopped.
At the time, a move away definitely made the most sense. Unfortunately, we couldn’t sell him to a club abroad. Hopefully, he doesn’t come back to haunt us in the not too distant future because he’s obviously a hugely gifted player.
