Manchester United move up a couple of places in the Premier League table on Sunday, thanks to a decent 2-1 victory at home to Everton.
The game itself was relatively straightforward. United were by far the better team for the most part. Paul Pogba got the Red Devils on their way with a penalty, before Anthony Martial doubled the lead with a simply stunning strike.
In the aftermath of the game, Martial was rightfully receiving the majority of the praise. His on-ball ability, skill and finishing caught the eye of Sky Sports’ Jamie Redknapp. The ex-Liverpool man has certainly stuck his neck out on the line, by claiming that he’s the best United have when on song.
“When he’s [Martial] playing well in that position, he’s the best they’ve got,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports, per The Peoples Person.
I think Redknapp hits the nail on the head. Romelu Lukaku has been poor recently, and although the effort is there from Marcus Rashford, he’s struggling to score goals. Martial has been the only constant in our attack this season, over the last few weeks, he has been absolutely superb.
It makes you wonder what could have happened last season if Martial continued to play regularly even after Alexis Sanchez arrived. Now, he’s going to demand even more money to stay at United because he probably knows that, as soon as he hits a bad patch of form, he’ll be straight back on the bench under Mourinho. We genuinely need to pay him whatever he wants and ensure he stays, because he’s so important to us.
