Jesse Lingard explains brilliantly bizarre goal celebration against Middlesbrough

Manchester United managed to earn a victory against Middlesbrough yesterday afternoon, with the Red Devils winning 3-1. The game as a whole was pretty comfortable as the hosts never really looked like threatening all that seriously – until the last ten minutes as they pushed for a leveller.

The pick of the bunch came from the boot of Jesse Lingard, who picked up the ball in his own half before lashing one right into the top corner in brilliant fashion. However, after the strike he followed it up with a bizarre celebration which you can see below.

Have a look at the celebration here:

I was left questioning the reasoning behind the celebration, but wonder no more as the man himself has revealed exactly why he did what he did.

“It’s a new album that’s just dropped by Drake,” he explained when speaking to MUTV after the game. “One of the songs… I promised a mate I’d do that celebration if I scored, so I did it!

At the end of the day, Jesse Lingard is a young lad who is thoroughly enjoying his football right now. If he can’t celebrate after scoring a thunderbolt like that, when is he allowed to do so?

His performance as a whole must have been really encouraging for Jose Mourinho as well. He acquitted himself brilliantly throughout, made really intelligent runs and obviously capped it off with that sublime strike.

Lingard is just a great guy to have in and around the squad. He’s versatile and obviously has it in his locker. On top of that, he’s a Manchester United fan born and bred and it’s always wonderful watching homegrown talent succeeding.
