Jesse Lingard ‘greatly tempted’ by move to Italy, was setting his mind it before lockdown: report

Manchester United have a squad that’s getting younger in the midst of major overhaul.

Credit where it’s due, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hasn’t shied away from making big calls, although some of them couldn’t have been easy.

Amongst the players who seem to be teetering on the edge of being out is Jesse Lingard. The Englishman was a mainstay in the team under Jose Mourinho, but he’s since fizzled out of favour.

Now, according to a story from The Independent based around United’s transfer strategy, a segment is dedicated to Lingard. In which it is claimed that the homegrown United star is ‘greatly tempted’ by a move to the Serie A this summer. He was considering the switch before lockdown began, though he’s had even more time to think the idea through since…

In fact, Lingard has already been in regular contact with both Ashley Young and Chris Smalling, who are playing for Inter Milan and AS Roma respectively.

Ever since switching his agent to Mino Raiola, you felt like something fishy was going on behind the scenes. Fair enough, if Lingard wants regular football elsewhere then so be it. After all, the chances at him making it back into our starting XI are only slimmer after Bruno Fernandes’ arrival…
