At Manchester United’s awards ceremony last night, a surprise honour was given out by manager Jose Mourinho.
The self-proclaimed Special One has chosen his personal Player of the Season and opted to give the award to Scott McTominay.
McTominay has made great strides as a player this term, growing from a mere bit-part squad member, to a player whom the manager trusts wholeheartedly; thrusting him into the starting XI for huge Champions League matches.
It has been a whirlwind year for the man from Lancaster. McTominay has gone on to make thirteen starts for the Old Trafford club, while also representing his country, Scotland, for the first time.

Mourinho admitted it was between he and Nemanja Matic for the honour but opted for the youngster purely due to him achieving so much in such a short space of time.
McTominay was absolutely nowhere to be seen at the start of the campaign, now he’s become a reliable midfielder who can be trusted. Earning recognition from such a high profile coach can only be a huge confidence booster for the 21-year-old who’ll no doubt have a huge role to play next term.
