Jose Mourinho confirms he plans to hand Premier League debut to this Man United star vs Palace

Manchester United’s biggest game of their season is less than a week away now, with the Red Devils’ preparations for the Europa League final well underway. Before that, though, Jose Mourinho and his players have just one more Premier League game to get through.

The match is against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday, when we’ll wave goodbye to our heroes and icons until next August when they’ll return to the Theatre of Dreams.

It’s looking like the game will be yet another dull affair with both teams having nothing to play for, but we have been handed an early bit of team news.

Joel Pereira is all set to make his full Premier League debut in the game, with Mourinho confirming he plans to start the 20-year-old in between the sticks. Sadly, it means we won’t be seeing David de Gea again for the remainder of this season, but it is definitely a move that makes a whole lot of sense.

“David? I think the first match against LA Galaxy in pre-season in Los Angeles,” Mourinho told Sky Sports, quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “I hope to play Joel Pereira against Crystal Palace, I hope to play Sergio in the final and hopefully we don’t have problems with these two keepers.

It is a great show of faith in a young player from the boss, and I for one am delighted that he is about to get his opportunity. Learning from both De Gea and Romero can only help Pereira, and now, playing in a Premier League game for the first time will be a brilliant test for him.

I just hope he has a decent back four in front of him so he isn’t getting shot after shot fired at him for 90 minutes. It will definitely be interesting to see him in action, however, who knows, he could well be our future number one…
