Manchester United’s attentions turn back to the bread and butter of the Premier League this weekend, when Jose Mourinho’s men host AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford. The Red Devils will be looking for three points here, and it could well see them move up in the table.
The gaffer has been speaking to the media about a variety of topics, including the available of certain players. One man who was discussed was Luke Shaw, and the boss has confirmed that the talented left-back will feature against AFC Bournemouth in some capacity.
“[On] Luke Shaw, I have good news for you. He is selected for tomorrow so you don’t need to have the guys at The Lowry [team hotel] to take pictures of who is selected and makes the list because Luke is on the list for tomorrow.” Jose Mourinho is quoted as saying by ManUtd.com.
“Again, it is one step up from not being selected, from not being in the final, from not even being on the bench. Now, like Wayne, he’s selected so he is playing or being on the bench. He becomes an option to us again.”
This is just brilliant news. I’m still firmly of the opinion that the Englishman is the most talented left-back we have in the squad – and by quite some distance as well. He hasn’t really played this season due to one thing or another, but perhaps it is time for him to start winning his place back in the side.
You have to remember that his confidence would’ve been extremely low following that horrific injury leg-break he suffered against PSV back in 2015, and it will take some time for him to get back to his best.
Hopefully, this is the start of that resurgence and he can get on the pitch against The Cherries and really prove just how good he is.
