Ahead of Manchester United’s UEFA Champions League clash against FC Basel, Jose Mourinho has been giving us some team news.
While speaking to reporters, including ManUtd.com, the gaffer confirmed that Phil Jones’ injury will rule him out of both the aforementioned Basel game, but also Brighton’s trip to Old Trafford this weekend.
The Englishman suffered the injury while on international duty, where Gareth Southgate decided to risk the centre-back despite giving him several injections on the problem area.
Now it certainly looks as though the issue has been aggravated, although we’re not quite clear as to how long he’ll remain out for.
It’s just poor form from Southgate. Why risk a player in a friendly game, knowing that he isn’t at 100%? The only team it hurts is Manchester United, and now they’ll be without one of their key players for at least a couple of games.
Jones had begun to put injury issues behind him whilst forming an excellent partnership with Eric Bailly (who is also out injured at the moment). I’m hoping it isn’t anything serious and he’ll be back out on the field in the not too distant future, because we desperately need him.
