Jose Mourinho confirms that key duo will miss FC Barcelona game through injury

Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the United States of America draws to it’s close in a game against FC Barcelona tomorrow. Jose Mourinho’s men will be putting their unbeaten record on the line against Lionel Messi and company, but two key players will be missing from the game.

That’s what Mourinho says anyway. He met the media, and amongst the topic of discussion was the injury situation. He confirmed to MUTV that both Ander Herrera and Juan Mata will not recover in time to play tomorrow, although they should be back in contention when we play Valerenga in Norway.

“They cannot play tomorrow [against Barcelona] but I think they will recover in time to be integrated with the team when we go back to work next Saturday. They will probably play on Sunday [against Valerenga].” Jose Mourinho told MUTV.

Mata picked up his problem against Real Salt Lake and hasn’t really played much at all – meaning he is in desperate need of some match fitness before the season starts.

Herrera has played a little bit more, but got next to no minutes against Real Madrid, as he literally suffered his rib issue within seconds of coming onto the field.

It’s great to hear that neither issue seems to be too serious and they’ll still get opportunities to keep building up their match fitness ahead of the Premier League opener on August 13th. Both of these guys are such key players for us going forward, and the relationship that they share whilst on the pitch is almost telepathic.
