Jose Mourinho explains why key duo missed Manchester United’s loss to Newcastle

Manchester United Football Club suffered their second loss in three Premier League games, with Jose Mourinho’s men losing to Newcastle United.

From the start, the Red Devils looked off the pace, failing to get any real control of the game, allowing Newcastle to dictate things.

Eventually, Matt Ritchie broke the deadlock to put the Magpies ahead, and the Red Devils never really looked like getting back into it.

Before the game when the teams were announced, both Ander Herrera and Marcus Rashford weren’t named in the squad, and the self-proclaimed Special One explained that the pair are both suffering from injury.

“Both are injured,” Mourinho told reporters, including ManUtd.com.

Then the gaffer was asked if they’re long-term problems, thankfully, the boss responded:

“I don’t think so, but let’s wait a little bit,” he added. “When it’s little tweaks in muscles you never know until you know for sure, but it’s not possible for them to play today.”

This is the first game that Rashford has missed this term, and hopefully, it’s only a little muscle injury rather than anything serious. The same can be said about Herrera. He’s a fantastic option to have from off the bench, and his absence was felt as we entered the latter part of the match.

With the Champions League starting up again soon, we’re desperate for these lads, along with Eric Bailly, Marouane Fellaini and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, to return. The more bodies we have available, the better.
