Manchester United have had to cope without the services of Paul Pogba over the last couple of games, due to the tragic loss of his father late last week. The 24-year-old Frenchman has been a huge miss, and his on-ball brilliance just couldn’t be replaced.
We just look like a totally different team without the most expensive player in the world. It comes as no surprise that we struggled when it comes to chance creation without him, and I’d argue that he is our most important player right now.
After the 0-0 draw away at Southampton, Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Pogba will come back into the team for the Crystal Palace game at the weekend. Presumably, so he can build up some match fitness ahead of the Europa League final on Wednesday.
“Pogba will come because Paul is not training or playing since his dad passed away. I will put two or three of my boys rotating during the game, making some changes to save them, but I need to give a little structure of four or five of my boys to give some stability to the kids. I don’t think, by themselves, they will be in [the right] conditions to play the game.”Jose Mourinho is quoted as saying by the official Manchester United website.
He’s just the guy that makes us tick. At times this season he has come under a lot of criticism and some of it is deserved. Our performances without him in the side have been of a lower level, and it comes as no surprise that we tend to win more often when he plays.
Although he is young, this is a player who has bags of top level experience under his belt, and if Mourinho is to play plenty of youngsters against Palace, if they can turn to Pogba to guide them through, it’ll help them massively.
I guess the most important thing is that he comes through this weekend unscathed because we’re desperate for a fully fit and ready Paul Pogba to take on Ajax in the Europa League final.
