Manchester United dropped points at home to Stoke City this afternoon, thanks to a David de Gea error late on. The game as a whole was rather positive for the Red Devils despite the result, and before the game, Jose Mourinho identified how United can move forward in midfield.
The self-proclaimed Special One was speaking out about Ander Herrera and why he is key for Manchester United alongside Paul Pogba in the middle of the park. He highlighted the Spaniard’s ability to track back and do the defensive duties quickly, as well as moving forward.
“He can be an important player for us, because we play with four attacking players plus Paul who likes a lot to go to different positions, to try and create,” he said.
“But we need a player like Ander because he is very fast on the defensive transition, he can give us the security we need, especially against fast counter attacks.”
“There is a long way to go and lots of room for improvement individually, collectively. We need results we need points. We are also worried about the quality of our game, our dynamic, especially our consistency.”
Sadly, the pair weren’t quite perfect this afternoon. Although they dominated the game, Pogba, in particular, missed too many chances when he had the opportunity to put the game to bed.
It is great to see that Ander Herrera is a key part of Mourinho’s plans though, and that will obviously go down well with the reds fans who absolutely adore him.
