Manchester United Football Club piled the pressure on both City and Liverpool this weekend, thanks to a comfortable 2-0 victory away at Burnley. Things are definitely starting to look up for us at the moment, and we head into the derby just one point behind our fierce rivals.
We’re definitely a team in the ascendancy right now, despite our squad being decimated by injuries. Anthony Martial came into the mix as the starting striker at Turf Moor, and my did he take his opportunity.
The young Frenchman found the back of the net in an excellent counter-attacking move, and his all-round game was pretty good. He gives us that extra bit of cutting edge and penetration due to his pace, and he was absolutely devastating.
Now Jose Mourinho has given his verdict on the 21-year-old’s performance, and of course, he’s very pleased. The gaffer hailed Martial’s play with and without the ball, before saying he coped excellently despite being isolated.
“Yes, of course, it was very good,” Mourinho told reports, as per the MEN. “Very good with the ball, without the ball in the middle of two strong central defenders. Without anyone just behind him, he was quite distant from our midfielders.”
“He did very well.”
Martial has had opportunities this season but more often than not he hasn’t taken them. This weekend was different and you could see the hunger and desire in his eyes.
Hopefully, this is the start of a good stretch of form for him, because we really need him to step up and prove his worth from now until the end of the season. He’ll get chances because of the state our squad is in. He now has to take them.
