Manchester United Football Club have a few concerned fans at the moment, largely regarding the situation of Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The Armenian hasn’t featured in a match day squad since the derby, despite appearing to be fit over the last couple of weeks or so.

Now, Jose Mourinho has spoken out on the situation, and confirmed that although Mkhitaryan is back in training, he isn’t 100% at this point and that is exactly why he has not been involved.

It’s always going to be tough for a new player in a different atmosphere and surroundings, and it looks as though the £27million man is going to be no different. He is a notoriously slow starter, but when he comes good, I believe he’ll set this league alight.

“Sometimes I confuse the word ‘fit’ in the English language. Sometimes you can say that it is ‘not injured’, but you could also say that you are in great condition and ready to compete. That is different for me as we use different words in Portuguese for the different situations. Mkhitaryan is not injured, he is training with the team 100 per cent.” Jose Mourinho is quoted as saying.

“Some players find it very easy whereas others need more time. They need time to feel the intensity, the aggression, the game without the ball and the competitiveness.

“The realities are often different, particularly in terms of the competitiveness. It doesn’t matter who you are against, you have to play at the highest level otherwise you will not be able to do it. Micki needs time to become the top player he knows he can be.”

“I think Micki will work here for sure,” The manager assured reporters.

Mkhitaryan has to continue working hard and try get back to being completely fit first of all. He’ll get his chances, there is no doubt about that. Who knows, we could well see him take to the turf this weekend against Burnley.
