Jose Mourinho explains why Luke Shaw hasn’t been playing for Manchester United recently recently

Manchester United Football Club got another excellent win under their belts at the weekend, with Jose Mourinho’s side looking comfortable at home to Watford. The Red Devils are really putting pressure on the teams above them – who just don’t seem to be dropping points right now.

One of the reasons behind our good run of form is the fact that the manager has a huge squad at his disposal, meaning he can chop and change players to suit different situations. Luke Shaw is one of those guys who has been missing out recently – in a similar manner as to how Anthony Martial had to wait for his chance.

Speaking to the media, the self-proclaimed Special One has told Luke Shaw to keep working and wait for his chance, and he then explained why Matteo Darmian got the nod on the bench ahead of the Englishman.

“He has to work and wait,” Mourinho is quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News. “But today I want one defender on the bench and the defender on the bench is somebody who can play more than one position. And Darmian can play left-back, right-back and would be an emergency central defender for us, so my choice was Darmian.

“The only thing I can say is that Luke is working well. I don’t have any problem and he’s working well. He’s fighting hard, there is no problem with him.”

It’s reassuring that he told the media that there is no issue between the pair, and it’s purely down to tactical decisions as to why he hasn’t featured. We have to remember that Shaw is still young, and that serious injury definitely set him back somewhat.

I’ve personally got no doubts that he will come good eventually, it may just take a bit longer than some people thought.
