Jose Mourinho has identified Valencia CF’s Jose Luis Gaya as the ideal replacement for Matteo Darmian, Tuttosport, per talkSPORT says.
Apparently, United’s Italian defender is being eyed by both Juventus and AS Roma for a summer move, with United set to allow the deal to go through.
With that transfer in mind, the self-proclaimed Special One wants to bring in Gaya, who’s made 29 appearances for the Spanish giants Valencia this season.
At just 22, it’d bring more youth into the squad which is always a good thing. Gaya is predominantly a left-back, meaning he’d also challenge both Ashley Young and Luke Shaw for a spot in the starting XI, and to be honest, I’d back him to do exactly that. For whatever reason, the gaffer doesn’t seem to fully trust Shaw and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him sold in the summer.
Bringing in Gaya would involve little to no risk. I cannot see him being that expensive, and he’s young enough to sell on if the move doesn’t work out. He’d have everything to gain and not much to lose, so if United come in for him, I think he’d probably find it tough to turn down, and personally, I’d be delighted if the deal went through.
