Manchester United’s summer transfer window was easily the worst transfer period in recent memory. Jose Mourinho is already trying to rectify that.
According to the usually reliable ESPN, the self-proclaimed Special One is trying to push two January deals over the line; both centre-backs.
Mourinho wants the Red Devils to deliver the signings of both Milan Skriniar and Alessio Romagnoli, from Inter Milan and AC Milan respectively. The gaffer is asking the board to seal these deals as a show of faith in his management, by ensuring that he has a long-term future at Old Trafford.
According to ESPN, each defender is valued at £40million, taking the potential combined spend to £80million. All things considered, that’s not bad at all in the modern-day game.
Skriniar, 23 has emerged as one of the best upcoming centre-backs in the game. He’s quick, aggressive, strong and great in the air. He looks tailor-made for the Premier League game, although it’d likely take him time to adapt.
Romagnoli is a similar story. He’s also 23, although somewhat slower, he does have more experience. Both are marked upgrades on what we currently have available, but buying players in the January transfer window is notoriously difficult.
Can Edward Woodward pull it off? I guess we’ll have to wait and see…
