Manchester United Football Club secured back-to-back victories for the first time this season, with the Red Devils toppling the unbeaten Watford 2-1.
It was a display of real quality, particularly in the first-half, where United scored twice. In fact, it could have easily been three or four with the match out of reach for our opponents.
One of the stars of the show? Chris Smalling. Defensively, he won his battles, while also causing a nuisance in the opposing penalty box. The ball came in, he chested it down, swivelled and lashed it in past a hapless Ben Foster.
Mourinho pumped his fists in celebration at the time, but his reaction post-match was even better.
“He was good, the only thing I don’t like from Chris at this moment is his haircut, but I am nobody to tell him that,” Mourinho is quoted as saying per Goal.
Honestly, this is just great to see. It may seem meaningless, but joking and general happiness is so important for squad morale. At this level, football is won in the mind. Having that positive attitude is vital.
Credit to Smalling, too. He had an excellent game and is now rediscovering the excellent form he showed on occasions aplenty last term. Alongside Victor Lindelof, they’re forming a nice little partnership and hopefully, that will continue.
