Jose Mourinho had named Phil Jones amongst an exclusive list of players that the self-proclaimed Special One deemed as untransferable. That’s what the Manchester Evening News write anyway, with Jones being placed upon a list alongside names like David de Gea and Marcus Rashford.
I guess this is what separates the top managers from the good ones. Mourinho has always had a habit of nurturing players and making them better than their ability. He seems to have played an absolute blinder with Jones judging by the start to the season that the centre-back has made.
Heck, being named as untransferable with your name sitting there with the likes of De Gea and Rashford is huge praise indeed.
Before the start of the campaign, I wanted Jones sold as quickly as possible but he deserves massive credit for turning things around, continuing to work hard and forcing his way into the starting line-up. Now, it looks like he’s a shoe-in to play every single week and he deserves all the plaudits coming his way.
Finally, it feels as though those injury worries and now behind him and the 25-year-old can focus solely on playing football and trying to win major pieces of silverware for one of the biggest clubs on the planet.
