Manchester United have had an utterly horrific time with defensive injuries at the moment. Eric Bailly is still expected to be out for another month, with Antonio Valencia’s return date unknown due to having to have surgery on a broken arm.
On top of that, the makeshift back four put together containing the likes of Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian doesn’t look all that convincing. That has prompted the Manchester United manager to explore other options, and look at the possibility of bringing a new signing in.
According to reports, Jose is looking at Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk as a January transfer, after the Dutchman has displayed some scintillating form at the start of this current season under Claude Puel.
Van Dijk, 25, is valued at around the £30million mark, with Jose a huge fan of his aggression in defensive situations, and ability to be on the front foot.
As a defender I absolutely love him, and he has single-handedly turned that Saints back line into a real force. Prising him away in the middle of the season will not be easy in the slightest though, but if anyone can do it, Jose can.
