Manchester United, namely Jose Mourinho has seemingly exiled Luke Shaw from the first-team fold of late.
For some reason, we’ve seen very little of the 22-year-old this season, despite the fact that he’s returned from injury coupled with left-back struggles for pretty much the majority of the season.
Ahead of United’s game against CSKA Moscow, the self-proclaimed Special One has offered us an update on Shaw, and it’s positive news for the former Southampton academy graduate.
“He’s working to have an opportunity and sooner or later, the opportunity will arrive. He’s selected for tomorrow, yes, for sure. To start or to be on the bench, I cannot answer.” Mourinho told reporters, per United’s official Twitter page.
It’s been a tough period for Shaw and injuries certainly haven’t helped his case over the last few seasons. This is a player who I personally thought was going to make that left-back spot his own. Obviously, that hasn’t happened, and I was of the opinion he may well have been sold in January. Going off Mourinho’s latest comments, that doesn’t seem to be the plan.
At least now Shaw knows that an opportunity will come his way sooner or later, and when it does arrive, it’s up to the player to be ready to grasp it with both hands and lock down his place in the team. I like the work Ashley Young has been doing in the left-back position, but there is no way that’s his permanent role in the team, namely due to his age (32).
Jose, on Luke Shaw: He's working to have an opportunity and sooner or later, the opportunity will arrive. He's selected for tomorrow, yes, for sure. To start or to be on the bench, I cannot answer." #MUFC
