Jose Mourinho offers update on Eric Bailly’s knee injury which forced him off against Palace

Manchester United secured a hard fought 2-1 victory away at Crystal Palace yesterday night, thanks to some brilliant performances by both Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. However, the lads also have the defence to thank after staying extremely firm for the most part.

The game saw Eric Bailly make his first Premier League start in quite some time after picking up a knee injury a couple of months ago, but sadly, the Ivorian picked up another knee problem last night.

After the game, Jose spoke to the media about the issue, but didn’t really give us a hint at how long the former Villareal defender will be missing for.

“The only thing I can say is that it is not the same knee,” Jose told MUTV.

“He had an injury in the right knee and he recovered fantastically well. Now it is the left knee. I don’t know really what he has, but let us see and wait. He could resist for so long. I would say for about 75 minutes he could resist. He is a special guy and his pain level is really high.”

I guess that it’s good news it isn’t the same knee that he’s injured. Jose goes on to praise his resilience and willingness to continue, and to be fair to Bailly he played on through the pain barrier – and did excellently.

Hopefully it’s just an impact issue rather than another serious knee injury, and I’m sure he’ll be wishing the same thing; particularly with the African Cup of Nations literally just around the corner.
