Jose Mourinho open to selling stunning 21-year-old attacker this summer: report

Just over two years ago now, Manchester United splashed big money to bring in the then relative unknown that was Anthony Martial. The brilliant Frenchman burst onto the scene with an outstanding goal against Liverpool, and from that point onwards that campaign, he was just wonderful.

His mazy runs left defenders in knots and his calm and composed finishes were just great. However, things changed for him under Jose Mourinho as the 21-year-old found game time hard to come by.

When he did play, I think it is fair to say that Martial struggled to replicate the form that he displayed from his first year, and it was disappointing for everyone, none more so than the man himself.

Now, reports from 101 Great Goals, as per The Sun, claim that Mourinho is open to selling Martial this summer. They say that the links to both Griezmann and Perisic make Financial Fair Play a possible issue, and the Red Devils will be keeping a close eye on things.

If either, or both of the aforementioned Griezmann and Perisic sign, then Martial’s game time will likely be reduced even further. Both guys are predominantly left-sided players, although Griezmann could well be deployed as a striker.

On top of that, I’d also suggest that Mourinho probably has more faith in Marcus Rashford, with the man from Wythenshawe having a far better season than his French counterpart.

I absolutely adore Martial and I think he’s a wonderfully gifted footballer. It would be sad to see him go but I would understand it. At the end of the day, there are only eleven places up for grabs and if the manager doesn’t think he fits the current system, then so be it.
