Jose Mourinho ready to make first key outgoing transfer

Jose Mourinho is ready to let his first regular member of the playing squad from last season leave Old Trafford. The news comes from ESPN, who say that 23-year-old right-back Guillermo Varela is set for a loan move away from Manchester United.

The reports say that Varela doesn’t feature in United’s plans going forward, and the Uruguayan hasn’t even been allowed to train with the first-team during pre-season so far. He has also been left out of the squad that will go on tour.

Last season, Varela got his big chance under Louis van Gaal, and took it for the most part. He really nailed down that right-back slot over a couple of months, and didn’t look like losing it.

However, one game against Liverpool saw his confidence dip massively, and he struggled from then onwards. Now it looks as though his time at United is up, and with the likes of Matteo Darmian, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Antonio Valencia ahead of him in the pecking order, he’ll find opportunities limited.
