Henrikh Mkhitaryan wasn’t included in Manchester United’s squad to take on Newcastle United based on a ‘tactical decision’ from Jose Mourinho. That’s what BT Sport say anyway, per The Peoples Person.
The Red Devils returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion, beating The Magpies 4-1 with Paul Pogba starring upon his return from injury.
Mkhitaryan’s absence has to be somewhat of a concern, however. The Armenia star was truly sensational at the start of the campaign, but the last couple of months have been a struggle for the former Borussia Dortmund star.
Perhaps this is Mourinho’s way of taking him out of the limelight, which makes sense. It’ll reignite that fire in his belly as he’ll be desperate to force his way back into the starting line-up, and with a trip to FC Basel coming on Wednesday, it could be the perfect play from the self-proclaimed Special One.
In my opinion, the ‘tactical decision’ excuse is a poor one. We can all see just how bad he’s been playing at the moment, so why not just come out and admit it. With players returning from injury, too, it’s only going to get tougher for Mkhitaryan to earn minutes on the field.
