Jose Mourinho reveals why Wayne Rooney won’t play against Feyenoord

Manchester United kick-off their Europa League campaign tomorrow, with Feyenoord away the first game on the cards. Jose Mourinho has decided to leave club captain Wayne Rooney behind, and this led to concerns about his fitness.

Jose Mourinho quashed those in his press conference, though, as he stated that it was probably time to give the English striker a much-needed rest after playing quite a bit of football early on in the season.

“He’s played every game since the beginning of the season, he played also 90 minutes for England and he played 90 minutes last weekend.” Mourinho began.

“I want him to be fresh for the next Premier League match and at the same time it’s the kind of attacking position where I have a lot of solutions and where people are working hard to have a chance.”

The attacker hasn’t made the greatest start to the current campaign, but somehow always seems to have a hand in a goal or playing a key part in the game.

Perhaps missing this game will drive the England international on even more, and want to fight harder for the cause. He’ll obviously be back in the line-up come Watford away at the weekend, which won’t be easy at all.
