Deadline day has arrived. Manchester United’s transfer activity has remained rather stagnant since the World Cup got underway.
Fans across the globe would have been expecting at least one more incoming, presumably to tighten up a pretty leaky defence. Until this point, no new centre-half has been added.
Now, with just hours to go until the transfer period slams shut, Jose Mourinho has had his say and it’s fair to suggest the self-proclaimed Special One isn’t confident. He’s admitted that it’s going to be tough for United to bring someone in. Now, it’s time to focus on what players he has at his disposal.
I’m not confident and the market closes today, he said, per the official website.
So it’s time – at least for me – to stop thinking about the market because the market will be closed, so I will have to focus on the players I have in relation to this first couple of matches.
Look, it’s disappointing for us all. Watching everyone strengthen while we just sit here and see everyone pass us by is frustrating. However, it will all be forgotten about come Friday night when the Premier League kicks off.
Mourinho’s a fantastic manager with a brilliant group of players available to him. Don’t forget, these lads achieved a second-place finish last season. Replicating that is not going to be easy, going one better, even more difficult. We can do it though.
Heck, we all know three points on Friday night will be huge and all this transfer nonsense will be forgotten about.
