Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is targeting a summer move for Tottenham Hotspur centre-back, Toby Alderweireld.
That’s according to The Guardian, who say that the self-proclaimed Special One is targeting the 29-year-old as he looks to revamp the Red Devils defence.
Furthermore, Aldeweireld himself is open to the switch, and the fact that he is out of contract in 2020 only strengthens the players’ hand.
Alderweireld would be a typical Mourinho signing. He’s a ready-made, experienced individual who could come in and do an excellent job from the get-go – and it’s a move that’d bring some much-needed experience to the heart of United’s defence.
This season, there has been so many occasions where a silly, naive mistake has been made and it’s cost Mourinho the game. With that in mind, it comes as no surprise to see United heavily linked with a move for a proven Premier League centre-half.
Let’s be honest, Phil Jones just hasn’t been good enough, whereas Eric Bailly’s injury record is a cause for concern. Then you have the inconsistent Chris Smalling and the inexperienced Victor Lindelof. The manager simply has to make a change in a key area of the field.
