Last year, Marcus Rashford burst onto the scene under the watchful eye of Louis van Gaal. The man from Wythenshawe has been a key part of the squad since his arrival last February, and it’s great to see a young talent performing so well at the highest level.
The 19-year-old has had a mixed campaign this time around, though, but we’ve seen glimpses of his magic – most recently against Saint-Etienne in the Europa League.
With all that said, it’s obvious the self-proclaimed Special One is still a huge fan of Rashford’s judging by his latest comments on United’s official website after the aforementioned match against Saint-Etienne.
“Last season was the season of surprise,” Mourinho told ManUtd.com.
“Nobody knew him, he came and his impact was tremendous. This has been a difficult season in relation to that.”
“But this is a season of growing up, being stable, strong, physically strong, mentally strong, tactically strong, he is playing in almost every match, sometimes starting and coming from the bench.”
“It’s been a great experience for him. He is a 19-year-old boy and, obviously, he has an amazing future.”
It really must be a massive confidence booster for Rashford, and to know that Jose has plenty of faith in him is superb. We’ve seen how good our Portuguese coach is at man-management, just look at how well he handled both Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial recently. I’m certainly expecting similar things to happen here with our young forward.
