Alexis Sanchez is set to remain on the Manchester United bench for their game against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-final.
That’s according to The Sun, who adds that Marcus Rashford, 20, has played his way into Jose Mourinho’s team, after an excellent performance against AFC Bournemouth on Wednesday night.
It’s certainly fair to say that Sanchez has been inconsistent since his move to Old Trafford, and the fact that he wasn’t played on Wednesday tells us that Mourinho is considering other options.
Both Anthony Martial and the aforementioned Rashford played well during United’s 2-0 victory midweek, but you have to give the nod to the latter, who was the better of the two.
Then you have to factor in that Spurs will do a fair amount of attacking themselves. Rashford will track back and carry out his defensive duties more often than Martial will. In a game of this magnitude, his work rate could be absolutely crucial.
Sure, Martial fanboys aren’t going to be happy, but playing Rashford in this fixture certainly seems like the logical decision. Hopefully, United can do the business and progress into an FA Cup final for the second time in three seasons.
