Manchester United’s squad is looking a whole lot stronger at this point in time, with Jose Mourinho not afraid to spend big to bring some huge personalities to his club. Despite that, we’re not to forget about the talent we already have in our ranks, and Paul Parker is clearly trying to remind Jose about a certain one.
The man in question is Timothy Fosu-Mensah, and in a recent interview, Parker has expressed his thoughts about how the 18-year-old deserves a chance in the side.
“The position United have to worry about is right-back. They have Fosu-Mensah who is absolutely perfect,” he said.
“He is a very good defender and in the final third he’s as cool as a cucumber. He never panicked last season and has an arrogance on the ball. He would be a better bet than Valencia who is fine up to a point but doesn’t have a trick.
“The thing that goes against Fosu-Mensah is that he’s young and Mourinho doesn’t like young players. It’s the same old story and if that’s what is keeping him out of the side that’s a concern.”
Paul Parker is right. He’s the perfect Jose Mourinho player. Built like a tank, has great energy and never shirks a tackle. He was thrown right in at the deep-end last term, but injury has meant a disjointed start to life under our new boss.
Fosu-Mensah certainly seems like one of the most talented youngsters we have on our books at the moment. The Dutchman has been outstanding on every first-team appearance so far, and Mourinho certainly seems convinced by his talents.
However, he’s going to find it hard to break in. Antonio Valencia is looking great at right-back, and Eric Bailly the same at centre-half. It’s up to Fosu-Mensah to keep working hard in training, and when he gets that opportunity, he has to grab it with both hands.
