It certainly seems like Jose Mourinho wants to bring in a new midfielder this summer, to help out the likes of Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba. One man they’ve been linked with is Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier, who is clearly more defensive-minded than the aforementioned duo.
Now, in a report from the Daily Mirror, as per The Sun, Jose Mourinho apparently wants Manchester United to make a huge £60million offer to secure the signature of the Englishman.
The England international is apparently one of Mourinho’s top transfer targets, although Spurs are confident that they will keep hold of their man going into the 2017-18 season.
According to the aforementioned report, Dier, 23, could double his current £75,000-a-week wages if he made the move to the Theatre of Dreams, which has to be an attractive proposition for the player.
Personally, I’d be underwhelmed if we signed the England international. He’s a good player, but not much more than that. Alright, he’d offer that defensive protection, but I’ve watched him play so poorly at times he can cost his team games due to individual lapses in concentration.
I get that he has Premier League experience and he has time on his side, but there are so many better options out there, like AS Monaco’s Fabinho.
On top of that, Tottenham Hotspur are notoriously tough to deal with due to Daniel Levy. So this one could drag on for a while yet if United’s interest is genuine.
