Although the January transfer window only closed just over a month ago, you can bet that behind the scenes, Manchester United are meticulously planning their summer strategy.
According to Don Balon, translated by The Guardian, Jose Mourinho is already in talks with three FC Barcelona players, regarding the possibility of signing them.
In order of likeliness, the first name on the list is midfielder Andre Gomes. The 24-year-old has recently been booed off by his own ‘fans’ after some poor performances, and quite frankly, the man from Portugal has struggled since moving from Valencia.
Second on the list is centre-half Samuel Umtiti. The French defender is brilliantly talented, and United’s centre-back problems have been rather evident recently. I don’t see Barcelona letting him leave easily though, and why would the player want to depart?
Finally, we have Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. The report suggests that Mourinho sees the German as the ideal replacement for David de Gea, but for me, this isn’t worth thinking about until the Spaniard actually leaves. We have the best goalkeeper in the world on our books and he’s under contract, so I’d be surprised if he left Old Trafford this summer.
