Over the summer, Manchester United’s first signing under Jose Mourinho was one that we weren’t really expecting. Eric Bailly of Villareal made the move to the Theatre of Dreams, and what an absolutely outstanding centre-back he has been for us since minute one.
He’s strong, defends super aggressively and absolutely loves a tough tackle. The man from the Ivory Coast has really transformed our defence into a winning one, and alongside Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones, the trio have been playing some excellent stuff in that area of the field.
At this point in time, Jose is having to cope without the services of the 22-year-old Bailly who is currently partaking in the African Cup of Nations with his country. However, that hasn’t stopped the centre-back talking about his time so far at Old Trafford – and it just makes you like him even more.
“Hopefully I can play in Manchester all my life,” Eric Bailly is quoted as saying by United’s official website. “I’m very happy here because it is such a great club.”
“It’s such an honour to play for this club and I hope I can continue giving my best and become a great player in this club.”
“It’s difficult to claim the position of being a first-team player, but I have to enjoy every minute I get at this club because it’s a wonderful club and I’m very happy to be there and to be part of it.”
“I’m happy to be at such a big club. I never dreamed a better dream than playing for Man United. Hopefully, I can enjoy every bit of it every day.”
Based on his first six months here, you simply have to say that Bailly has all the makings of a Manchester United great. Yes, we know it’s still early days but for a man so young handling such pressure, this well is a testament to his character.
Hopefully, we’ll be getting an even better player upon his return from the AFCON, because Ivory Coast are heavy favourites and if they win the whole thing that’ll only boost his confidence.
