Manchester United’s U23 side return to action this evening, with a game against Sunderland on the agenda. However, some fans were left puzzled when one of their outstanding performers in the form of Joe Riley was left out of the squad altogether.
Unless the club are hiding an injury issue, it could mean that the midfield man has done enough to impress Jose Mourinho into rewarding him with a spot in the squad against Feyenoord on Thursday evening.

No Joe Riley in the squad tonight. Jose planning on using him this Thursday? pic.twitter.com/vSmrGxWHT5

The young man is a very impressive footballer, and certainly has what it takes to make it at the highest level in the game. Jose has sprung a few surprises with the selection of Tim Fosu-Mensah in the Europa League, so I wouldn’t be wholly surprised to see Joe Riley involved.
There isn’t much chance of the 19-year-old getting a start because it is a must win game for the Red Devils, but it would be absolutely fantastic to see him named on the bench as it’d be a real show of faith from our coach.
