Jose Mourinho is plotting a sensational move to bring Mesut Ozil to Manchester United, Bild claim, translated by The Metro. Apparently, the Red Devils boss is ready to open talks with the German, as he tries to sign him when his Arsenal contract expires at the end of the season.
The report also suggests that the self-proclaimed Special One tried to sign the world-class playmaker over the summer, but failed in his attempt to secure the services of a player he worked with at Real Madrid.
Provided that Ozil doesn’t put pen to paper on a new contract, the 28-year-old will be allowed to move wherever he chooses on a free transfer when the 2017/18 campaign ends, and no doubt a whole host of clubs will try to sign the star when the summer rolls around.
Ozil has won three FA Cups at the Emirates Stadium, but you’d imagine he wants to win a top-flight league title before his career ends. Why not try to do that with Mourinho who he knows so well?
I guess Arsenal wouldn’t really want that deal to happen, but at the end of the day, they’ll have absolutely no say in the matter if Ozil walks away for free.
