David de Gea and Manchester United is a rumour that just won’t go away. Following the fax machine incident a few years ago now, you get the feeling that this talk is going to crop up every summer.
Although there were reports just last week suggesting that De Gea was set to pen a new five-year, Old Trafford deal, United could still be left sweating in regards to the Spaniard…
That’s according to journalist Ian McGarry, per the Daily Express. He says that the 27-year-old will assess his options following the World Cup – and a move to Real Madrid could yet come to fruition.
I think that we all know he’ll move to the Santiago Bernabeu eventually, it’s just a case of keeping De Gea here for as long as physically possible. He is the best goalkeeper in the world, there is no doubt about that anymore. We’re lucky to have him.
For United, it’s about getting the timing of the sale right. Obviously, they don’t want to risk letting his contract run down and lose him cheaply, but on the flip-side, they’ll obviously want him to stay.
At this point, who knows what’s actually going on. I guess we’re best to just sit tight and wait and see. Hopefully, though, the Spaniard will be at United for a few more years yet.
