Manchester United’s injury struggles have been well documented. Perhaps they eventually caught up to the Red Devils as they lost to Wolverhampton Wanderers – with several players missing while others looked out of shape.
Maybe it’s down to the new, high-intensity style that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has United playing, but at least us fans are enjoying the football on display once again.
One player who has missed time recently is Juan Mata. The loveable Spaniard did return to action last time out, but today, he’s provided us with a hugely positive injury update before United’s run-in gets underway this Saturday.
“In terms of training sessions, this week has been a very positive one for me.” Mata wrote in his blog. “I have made the most of the chance to get in top shape after making my return in the FA Cup not long ago. I am feeling good and I am looking forward to doing whatever I can to help the team as much as possible.”
I’m usually that kind of person who hates the international break, but from a United perspective, it has come at the perfect time. This squad needed a fortnight to rest up, recharge the batteries and hopefully get a few bodies back from injury.
A fully fit Mata is huge. He brings something to the table that others simply cannot, and in a home game against Watford this Saturday, his free-kick ability coupled with the overall creativity could well be the difference maker.
I’d love to see the ex-Chelsea man get a real run of games in the team because if he’s going to sit on the bench most weeks, I don’t really see any point in keeping him around because he’s not really the sort of player who can make an impact as a substitute.
