It’s quite remarkable to think that Matteo Darmian is still a Manchester United player. It feels as though the right-back has been trying to leave Old Trafford for the last few windows, but to no avail thus far.
Well seemingly, an exit could potentially be on the cards for Darmian. The story comes from Corriere dello Sport’s Tuesday print edition, who state that Juventus are still keen on bringing the Italian international back home.
However, there’s a caveat. It’s all down to Joao Cancelo, who, according to CdS, isn’t part of Maurizio Sarri’s plans – and the right-back will need replacing. That’s where Darmian comes into the equation.
Apparently, should Juve need to acquire a right-back, Juventus are keeping the idea of signing Darmian ‘warm’, with the Old Lady knowing that the option to sign the 29-year-old is always available…
I just genuinely hope that this is the season Darmian gets his wish to leave. He has remained the consummate professional throughout, although that’s easier said than done given the lack of playing time.
The fact that Darmian’s contract expires next season means United are in the last chance saloon. They have to sell him now, whatever the fee, or he will be walking away for nothing in twelve months time.
