Yes, unfortunately, it is already that time of year. The international break is just around the corner – which could actually work in Manchester United’s favour due to the possibility that players could return from injury during it.
While it’s nice to see Gareth Southgate’s England doing well at the moment, nothing beats watching United play week-in-week-out; although there will be two key reds in action for the Three Lions over the next fortnight.
The club confirmed that both Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw have been named in the latest squad, with Jesse Lingard presumably missing out through injury. To me, that hints the Warrington-born-winger won’t be fit to take on Wolves this weekend which is obviously a blow.
Rashford has probably been the standout player for United under Solskjaer. He’s scored goals, improved his game and worked hard. The transformation came almost overnight.
Shaw, on the other hand, has arguably shown his best form in the United shirt over the last few months. He was stunning defensively against Liverpool, while always proving to be a threat going forward.
I find it unfortunate that Chris Smalling hasn’t been picked but he and Southgate haven’t always seen eye-to-eye, so it’s not altogether surprising. As for Phil Jones, he has been in and out of the team so he probably doesn’t warrant a call-up.
