Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard has become a mainstay in the team under Jose Mourinho, with the Englishman going to strength-to-strength for club and country.
However, things could have been oh so different back in 2015. According to The Bristol Post, Bristol City were about to break the bank to sign Lingard in a £2.5million deal; before he really emerged as an elite Premier League player.
At that time, Louis van Gaal was in charge. Although Lingard started during the Iron Tulip’s first ever Premier League game as manager, he failed to establish himself from there on out under the former Red Devils manager.
It’s hard to imagine Lingard playing his domestic football anywhere else. The Old Trafford Faithful absolutely adore our Jesse. There’s something special about having a homegrown player performing at such a high level week-in-week-out.
His versatility, speed and unreal movement are his best traits. He’s also good for a goal or two as well – particularly at Wembley where he just cannot seem to stop scoring.
The good thing is he’s only improving all the time. At 24, he’s still young. I’m expecting this campaign to be his best yet. Who knows, it could have been oh so different if Bristol did back up their interest with a bid, because at that time, he may well have left…
